3.5 years ago, we planted an edible hedge in our paddock, using plants from Buckingham Nurseries. I really like the cottage garden style of edible hedges, which did double and triple duty as a food source (and way to keep your animals and poultry in, and other animals and trespassers out.
We wanted a hedge to more tidily delineate our paddock, and so planted cherry, plum, pear and rose bushes in the winter of 2006.
And on Sunday, Irene’s sharp eyes noticed that the plum bushes are full of fruit, sweet-tasting, soft, succulent, both red and yellow plums.
The plants, bare-rooted, cost us a little over a £1.00 each, and have provided literally hundreds of plums. What a brilliant investment. How munificent the universe is!!
