The difference between career and calling is revolutionary.
A career is relentless: there is always more you can do, always people who are doing more, doing it better, there are random variables; it’s always more, more, more to ascend the greasy pole of fame and fortune and success.
Working at the very same thing because it is your calling or vocation sets you free to work in peace, to do what you can do and leave the rest in God’s hands.
“For me it all comes down to this: Did God give me this desire? If so, my success is not dependent on me, or how my call stacks up against another’s. My success is totally dependent on my obedience to the call.”

Wow I think that is my problem! I probably burn out more from being over-ambitious than anything else lol. But I never had given it a name, so thank you – that is good for me to ponder 🙂
Thanks Rhoda. Me too. It helps me when I feel over-ambitious and thus more likely to burn out, to return to the original call. Perhaps we are unlikely to burn out if we just do what we are called to, and no more!
Amen 🙂 I always come back to remembering what God has called me to do. Then it doesn't matter what others do or how much better they do it than me – it just matters that I am doing what He's called me to do.
