Jennifer, welcome to my blog.
" you can lead with humility and service – in fact, your message is preached louder from that place."
Perfectly, perfectly put!

Do you know of Brother Lawrence who achieved great holiness while praying in the Kitchen of a Carmelite monastery? I think he was called the Saint of Pots and Pans. I have often found myself serving food and coffee at church (women's roles and all that!) and try to do it well and cheerfully for the love of God...though it is not my preferred activity. Not at all. In solidarity, Andy :-)

This post was a timely reminder. I am in the midst of planning for some things that I feel like God has asked me to do, but I am desperate not to lose a humble, servant-minded heart. So much so that I really don't want to step out and do anything that would look like leadership or being in the spotlight. Thank you for the reminder that you can lead with humility and service - in fact, your message is preached louder from that place.

I have just finished an intensive few days working and praying with Christian businessmen seeking to influence the business people of our city for Christ. Being without a recognised role among such high powered people I found myself helping out in the kitchen during one event, leaving the movers and shakers to meet to stoke up their vision and plan their projects. My heart was asking the Lord, "what am I doing here? Do I have a role?" I believe the Lord likes to answer our sincere questions but I did not expect one quite so soon and so helpful as your blog, Anita. Thank you. Now I realise I don't need to look for human identity or recognition to be useful, not even in my own eyes, just serve.

God bless Michael Green! His humility and gracious spirit, as you reported, made such an impression upon me. And so ready to learn, too. Takes my breath away.

He reminds me of a dear senior saint who died several months ago. Such a humble man, and a lively, encouraging retired pastor! I had several excellent talks with him. Always interested to hear about what was going on at my church--"in the trenches," as he said, with a twinkle in his eye. He prayed for me as I pastored my congregation. I value those prayers, so much.
