Good word. I wanted to choose “Accelerate” but I couldn’t do that to myself. Instead I’ve decided to pray, “Accelerate, Lord,” when I feel restless at slowness!

It came as quite a surprise to me to discover one day that God doesn’t measure time as we do. In fact, he appears not to measure it at all, except as a means of reassurance. I write, not because I have to, necessarily, but because an idea occurs to me that I feel the need to clothe and then prink, pimp and fuss with it. I admire writers like you, whose words are often sweated out, like the juice from a blood orange, producing sharp economical imagery. The French have a word they use for a particularly efficient type of skiing – “avalement” is the same word as for “swallowing”. It’s effortless, swift and flows like a mountain brook, devouring the terrain. When the words flow like that, it’s such an encouragement.
