I like this SO much: “I had a friend once who said asking God for stuff we want to happen should be a BTW at the end of our long conversation…and to say, “if you have a chance to get around to it, could you do X? And ‘no’ is an acceptable answer too.” I like the casualness of the wording and adding that last sentence is important to me…it says that I pre-understand that it’s not a guaranteed thing and that God will do what God needs to do.”

Be still, and know that I am God is one of my favorite phrases when I think things are at their most chaotic. And I believe prayer is the natural extension of that faith…prayer comes from faith not the other way around. We pray because we have faith. I like your distinction that we must focus on the conversation with God, not the topic of conversation (the object of our prayer). I had a friend once who said asking God for stuff we want to happen should be a BTW at the end of our long conversation…and to say, “if you have a chance to get around to it, could you do X? In reply to Louise. ,The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still . I love that. We have a situation on our hands which invites fear and flapping, and so it's lovely to repeat that to myself. I guess one could get one's armour on, but then, just wait. It's a lovely verse.

Great post Anita, and actually right now I meditate and repeat to myself Exodus 14:14, The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still I found it of great value to be recently, and helps you to reach out actively for calm when the situation might otherwise affect your sense of peace.
