Wow, incredible aggression on Black Friday.
Some native American tribes have this custom called Potlatch, which I guess you know all about. People simply distribute their excess when they feel they have too much, and then resume life on an equal footing with everyone else.

I have a close friend who is widowed from an Oglalla Sioux on Pine Ridge reservation in the Dakota Territory. Every year, we gather some things to send to them for Christmas...coats, blankets, etc. The poverty on this res in particular is stunning. Yet, the spirit of their giving is amazing. Rather than hoarding as one would think living in impoverished conditions would lead to, it makes for more real and genuine sharing. My friend said if I ever visited, prepare to see her mother-in-law with no blanket on a cold night, but her friend having the one we bought last Christmas...her friend being determined to be more in need. There is no ownership, just useful things used by everyone as needed.
Your post also recalls to me that wonderful 60's folk song One Tin Soldier...after all the fighting and killing for "the treasure on the mountain" they turned the rock and looking benath it..."Peace on Earth" was all it said. Fighting for stuff brings out the worst in us as evidenced by our horrible Black Friday sales. Someone shot over a parking space...others trampled in a rush...fisticuffs over the last of something and a gun pulled for cutting in line.
